"There is more to fear than you can see."

Eight strangers wake up in a strange cubic room, without knowing how they got there. They soon find out that they are in a strange four-dimensional space where our laws of physics don't apply. They must unravel the secrets of the 'hypercube' in order to survive. The film combines the concept of four-dimensional cubes with the story of the first part.

very mediocre

In contrast to the first part, this is very atmospheric, which is mainly due to the lighting and the too sterile setting. Where I was still curious about what the Cube was in the previous one, I didn't care much for this one. There is also just too much explained, it is precisely that mysteriousness that was the strength of part 1. The acting is pretty lousy and the CGI is also bad. Furthermore, the characters make a lot of illogical choices. Also a bit cliché ending with the ''man in black suit'' and his assistants with caps.

A 3.

The premise also remains interesting enough in a second part to make a film out of it, although the mediocre cast and sometimes bad dialogues detract from this. Other than that, it all looks cheap, but it's entertaining.

Although Cube is a movie I've seen before, this second part is a disappointment. The first part certainly had its shortcomings (poor acting, bad special effects), but the originality and mystery of Cube was what deservedly made the film a minor cult classic.

In Hypercube they maintain the shortcomings of part 1, so again mediocre acting and the bright light makes the bad cgi even more visible. The fact of the Cube as a maze full of booby traps remains the same, but now with the extra dimension of time, which I also find most interesting about this film.
This could have been a great movie, with the new futuristic design and this new dimension of time. Then, just like with part 1, I would have taken the acting and CGI for granted.

But unfortunately the mystery of Cube has completely disappeared here, and the conspiracy theories mentioned in part 1 only as an option are becoming reality here. Unfortunately, that takes away all the mystery from Cube, the one element that made the first film so good.

2.5*
