Picks up on the original where Hypercube went wrong. Cube Zero shows how the whole story behind the cube. However, this means the death sentence of the tension. What remains is a decent display, but without goosebumps moments like in part 1.

With a third part you have to try something different, the filmmakers will have thought. Ultimately, of course, it's all about the cube, but there is also a lot going on outside the cube. This results in a far-fetched story (although it can hardly be otherwise) in which the tension, even though we have seen it twice before, is in the Cube itself. Again the cast is mediocre and the bad guy with a very strange eye makes a mess of it.

Cube Zero is a superfluous film, which lowers the secretly very good Cube and the mediocre Hypercube as a trilogy.
Where in Cube there is a dark mystery surrounding the meaning of the Cube, Hypercube begins to saddle us with the dull reality behind the Cube. But the makers apparently didn't think it was clear enough, so their message had to be rammed into the public again with bloody violence: the government and the army can't be trusted, track people down and put them in a building full booby traps. Well.

So half the time we watch two geeks behind a computer, and a crazy caricature of a James Bond villain. The boring story drags on and the kills don't necessarily get more exciting, but more bloody.
The movie suddenly ends up as a prequel to part 1, where the creators apparently weren't able to get the original cast together, so we have to make do with a group of people who vaguely remind us of the original characters .

2*
