When the police find the horribly mutilated corpse of a young girl, brothers Joe and Chrissie Fairburns and their supervisor Robert question the prime suspect, Jason Buleigh, a local sex offender and social outcast. However, they must let Jason go, whereupon the Fairburns brothers take matters into their own hands to force a confession. Meanwhile, Lenny Fairburns, the brothers' father and former police commissioner, remains in the car as a taciturn spectator of a fatal tragedy that begins to tear his sons apart. Unspoken secrets and suspicions fuel the tension as Joe obsessively confronts crimes of the present and crimes of the past.
