At times delicious '80 cheese, and therefore a pity that especially the middle part is incredibly boring.

The intro is nevertheless good with four young people who go to the water for a day. It's a pity that the party remains tame, because there is not a drop of alcohol or tit to be seen. The girls aren't necessarily pretty either, so bring on those all-consuming parasites. Those little aliens look wonderfully cheesy, while floating on a piece of fishing line they land on their victim and then suck them dry. A nasty idea anyway, but visually certainly successful.

The discovery of the shed is still a nice moment, but from then on it goes downhill. When the protagonists end up in the cafe, there seems to be no end to the film. The regulars are strange, with the Sarge as the highlight, but both the story and the dialogues are soporific. And the film has more scenes like that. The moment when the two young people break into a house also lasts for centuries and is much too slow in design.

The build-up to the end is once again unsuccessful, with an alien looking ridiculous. Fun fact is that the actor who plays the alien also plays the Predator, a film that succeeds in its aim in the same subgenre (but with a larger budget, of course). The critters have succeeded, and the intro promised a lot of good, but the film falls apart halfway through.

Triggered by the many youtube comments I saw about the blu-ray release mentioned above (maybe something for Arrow Video in the EU?) I really wanted to see this one. Since we don't have a DVD release of this movie within the EU and unfortunately I don't have a region-free player (which is still a bit too expensive for me so far), I was forced to watch a VHS rip of this one.

The (image) quality was therefore not fantastic, but it was still good to do.

The strange thing about this movie is that they let quite a few of the more interesting characters die in the first half. Within the first half hour of the film, the four friends who are on vacation are already halved, a father and a son (opening scene) have already left and we have had to say goodbye to a nice bad scouting leader.

We don't hear much about the latter either, except that it is mentioned once that a number of stray scouts have to be picked up. Too bad, because the father/son and the scouting leader characters in particular could have been used a bit more for the humor.

The creature fx still look pretty cool and the alien itself can handle it. If they had done a little more in the middle part, this would have become a classic, because as described above, the dialogues are not always that interesting.

Great for once, but not a topper.

Bad B-movie with pathetic acting, lack of suspense and a laughable alien that seemed to come out of a Daft Punk music video. In addition, the film feels very long-winded due to scenes in which almost nothing happens. The comparison with Predator is understandable but give me Predator then.
