Class of 1984 plot

""We are the future! ...and nothing can stop us.""

Norris, the new music teacher, does not understand why his colleague Corrigan walks with a loaded revolver in his pocket. Nor does he understand why every student has to pass a metal detector at the entrance of the school and why there are so many guards in the school. It doesn't take long before he discovers that there is an urgent reason for these measures: the class of 1984, a group of punks that terrorize everything and everyone, deal in drugs and do not shy away from violence. Norris can't bear that everyone is being lectured by this class and decides to do battle with them.

No idea why I waited so long to watch this movie but I'm so glad I finally did!
I really enjoy these kinds of videos, the undertone was more serious than I expected and I secretly ( after the end of course) expected it to be a bit more wrong.
The rebellious youth is portrayed realistically and Perry King convincingly as the teacher who refuses to be walked all over. The constructive atmosphere is well done and it keeps the film interesting, subcutaneous tension remains palpable and keeps the viewer's attention well.

It was predictable that they were going to get the teacher's girlfriend, but at the same time it was a disappointment if they didn't.

Recommended in any case! I'm going to take more movies with the same kind of plot, anyway The Principal from 87 is also ready.

I can give this without a doubt 4 stars, who knows, maybe half a star more.
Enjoy this movie to the fullest!

When this film was released in the mid-eighties, it caused quite a stir in the Netherlands, here we were not yet confronted with criminal teenagers in schools. That was of course great advertising for the film because everyone wanted to see this film. The subject was later filmed a number of times, and better, but this one is certainly not bad. King wasn't the right choice for this role in my opinion, might have been more for Michael Douglas or Kurt Russell. King does his best but he is completely outflanked by van Patten, the way he plays his role is simply magical. It amazes me that this actor later didn't appear so much in movies, still TV productions, but more and more he went into production and directors. Too bad because I would have liked to see him in bigger productions.
The film really relies on the acting of van Patten, the only supporting role that stands out is that of Fox, but more because he also plays a good boy there than that he acts like a charm. McDowell also doesn't stand out, even as a crazy teacher. The end of the film could also be seen coming far in advance in those years, but the lock on the roof of the school was a funny twist on the lock, he was still present at the performance.[ /spoiler]
The film also has a great song by Alice Cooper and a great soundtrack. You should definitely watch this movie.

Entertaining film with varying qualities.

The atmosphere is fine in this film, nice and dark and wonderfully 80s, so that the time machine effect a la The Breakfast Club quickly sets in. A simple, but effective story, which I can relate to as a teacher, despite the fact that fortunately I have never had such maniacs in front of me. The threat that a group of students can cause in a school is well illustrated, albeit a bit over the top.

The film looks like a dystopian future, similar to A Clockwork Orange. In any case, there are regular hints at that film: derailed youth terrorizing adults in gangs, the masks they wear in the car, and sneaking in and raping them... where did we see that before?

The gray atmosphere and the raw, somewhat over the top violence make this film a wonderful cult. However, there are also some downsides. The good students are very good and cheesy (that music class… come on), and drug use is again completely misrepresented, with bizarre consequences. In addition, some acting performances leave a lot to be desired. I liked the caricatured gang, but I didn't like the hopelessly overacting biology teacher with his hopeless expression. Stegmann acts quite well as an annoying psychopath, but the scene with the piano seemed forced to me to give depth to his character (ah, a maniacal intellectual and lover of classical music, where did we see that before?) [ /spoiler]

All in all an entertaining movie, with colorful characters and a decent revenge story.
