Finally seen.

Despite the fact that I do like Wan as a director, this one has somehow always escaped my attention. This is because it is a bit outside his normal working radius, but not unexpectedly, he does well.

Simple revenge movie, that much is clear. Acting, character motivations and plot are clearly not that important and are all in the service of revenge. Bacon's metamorphosis is ridiculous, the attitude of the police unbelievable and the bad guys are very bad. The only one who really knows how to make more of his silly role is Goodman, he really goes 200% on it, which makes it fun again.

But revenge. Nice grainy filter, colorful and often fine camera work ensure a film that easily rises above the rest. The action scenes may also be there, nice and brutal, enough variation and beautifully portrayed.

Death Sentence is not great cinema. It's also more genre work that probably wouldn't have been better off with a cinema release, but it's a must for lovers of revenge stories and rough action films. Wan holds his own easily, I'll soon continue my Fast & Furious trip to see what Wan accomplished there.

Mediocre. In terms of content, the film offers nothing special, neither Bacon nor his family could really interest me. There is also little construction in that area and what you get are the usual domestic scenes that you know after so many times. In this type of film it is mainly about the execution, which is quite gray and serious and dark. Sometimes nice and hard and raw and bloody, sometimes with nice moments with images and music, a single strong action scene (that chase and then in that parking garage was fine) but often the film also fell a bit dead. It was not exciting, not really fun and at the end the action offered little excitement. Then that atmosphere also plays a role and the extremely serious character, if a film doesn't grab you, then it doesn't know how to do it anymore. Then rather something light to enjoy in that area. 2.0*.

Very good and hard action movie!

The film actually starts very "homely", a family where everything is going well, actually a beginning where you think: "what have I put on again...?"

Until the trial it also seems like a drama film, but after that it takes a turn that you don't immediately expect.

The choice of Kevin Bacon is very appropriate. Besides being a very good actor, he fits well in the role of a decent office clerk who turns into a brutal killer.

In the beginning he is still very uncomfortable with a lot of doubt, but the deeper he gets into the misery, the more ruthless he becomes with very brutal gunshot wounds and brutal murders.

It is also very clear that the writer of "death wish" contributed to this film. A lot of similarities, but that certainly doesn't mean the film is a bad copy, quite the contrary!

The only downside was John Goodman, nothing wrong with this actor, but you often link that to comedy or a bit of a giggly role and that's a shame. His role doesn't really matter either, think this way and the film is exactly the same. Fortunately, the film really only revolves around Bacon and he acts very well.

Start with drama, then enough suspense and plenty of action, it was well worth reviewing!
