Beautiful design, beautiful locations and excellent images - all very consistently bluish and moody. Unfortunately, the story is a bit less, despite being derived from the famous work of Philip K. Dick. Where the film clearly borrows from the other Dick films and SF films from that period, it is in no way a comparison for, say, a Blade Runner. Especially the tension is insufficient, the long middle half is actually just boring. Perhaps it would have been better to pay more attention to the development of the characters. In any case, there is very little acting, the biggest role - that of Gary Sinise - involves little more than a lot of running and chasing stuff.

I came across the film by chance, and the name of Madeleine Stowe on the poster intrigued me - she was definitely one of my more favorite actresses at the time. Maybe not because of her acting... but, nevertheless, a reason to give this film a chance. Unfortunately, she only has a very small role.

In the revision done, but that was not easy. I didn't think this was a hit in 2001, but the ravages of time have certainly not done this SF cross-pollination of No Way Out and The Fugitive any good. The beginning is decent and the climax is great, but the long middle part is boring and almost plotless. The film also falls short visually due to the limited budget. Special effects and sets are pretty ugly. It may therefore disappear into oblivion.

When I recently came across this movie, I only remembered that I found it very entertaining at the time and that Gary Sinise turned out to be "taken over" in a nice twist (always a shame if you like a film doesn't even know the central storyline but just remember the twist... but oh well). The review wasn't easy, though: Sinise is solid as always (many people here mention his work at CSI, but I still think of him as Forrest Gump, [i ]Apollo 13[/i] and especially his brilliant role in Ransom), but the FX didn't last for a $40 million film, Vincent d'Onofrio reminded me a lot of John Malkovich, and the plot just couldn't hold my attention. It's nice that at the end Madeleine Stowe suddenly turns out to be taken over ("oh, I must have remembered that wrong - oh no, look at that!"), and the central idea then provides the film in my rating still a small enough, but I can't find it really good, there are too few exciting developments in it.
