Nice film about an albino young man who doesn't know the world yet, until his grandparents die. A beautiful and also original story that is not equally well developed everywhere. The first half of the film is the best, mainly because during the second half the sentiment gets the upper hand. Sean Patrick Flanery does well in the title role.

A special film that certainly manages to move. Jeremy Reed was born an albino and was nicknamed Powder. Mary Steenburgen, with her ever-worried look, is of course the right person to take care of the eccentric teenager, who has been living in his grandparents' basement for years. She persuades Powder to go with her, outside, because yes, Powder has to get around a bit, doesn't it .. Then she casually drops him off at a boys' boarding school, which you already know in advance is completely out of the hand, but strangely enough, the gullible Steenburgen sees no harm in it and, as expected, Powder quickly becomes the target of bullying. He also develops superpowers through the bullying; so his nickname doesn't just refer to his powdery white skin. The film lacks any depth, I think it could have been more. It's mostly a pathetic movie, especially because Powder can look so pathetic when he's being bullied. Well played by Sean Patrick Flanery by the way. Typical nineties film that is a cross between Carrie, The Green Mile and Edward Scissorhands, but it never gets as socially critical as the latter, except for that one comment to that narrow-minded sheriff: I never thought we'd find a man too white for you Harley.
