"You haven't lived until you've died"

Five medical students are obsessed with the mystery of what happens after death. They therefore embark on a daring and dangerous experiment: by stopping their hearts for a short period of time, they cause a near-death experience. This gives them insight into life after death. But their experiments become more and more dangerous, and they are eventually haunted by the sins of their past, evoked by the paranormal effects of their visits to "the other side".

A tricky one this one. You will of course think back to the original which probably, like me, many have seen. While in the original the emphasis was more on the afterlife, religion and white light, the director has clearly opted for horror and demonic powers. Thinking back, the 1990 version was also more cinematic and filmed much faster. But yes, the latter is understandable if you have to compete with so much TV-Series violence. Still, I give it a big pass because I had a great time. Not too long, nice scare effects now and then a somewhat weaker montage. The scene of the knife through James Norton's hand to, with a bandage in a cafe, is laughable But all in all, a great popcorn movie in my opinion.

Mediocre remake of a film that I don't hold very much either. To compare with the original is going to be difficult because it's also been a long time since I've seen the original. But in terms of cast, it was already better anyway, even though Ellen Page does play in it. I thought the delusions in this film were well presented and I can't remember how they were presented in the original film.

In terms of horror, it is very mediocre despite the nasty thoughts surrounding the theme. 5/10

Wow, I didn't think he was that bad. But the original had such a really oppressive atmosphere, I didn't really feel that here. All too slick and we are also very spoiled, everything is already done. All in all, this one kept me interested. Have a good look. Story is actually the same. Recommended for an evening at home on the couch.
