Anon plot

"Anonymity is the enemy"

In the near future, our world will be without privacy, ignorance and anonymity. The lives one leads are transparent, traceable and mapped out by the authorities. For the time being, the crime seems to have come to an end. Sal Frieland discovers that a young woman has no digital footprint and is completely invisible to the police. He realizes that this could just be the beginning of crime, not the end as was supposed.

Entertaining but businesslike.

In particular, the atmosphere is fine. The film shows a society in which no one enjoys much and does not paint a pleasant atmosphere. The film is set in a future world filled with coldness and insensitivity. The atmosphere is uncomfortable and terrifying.

The settings are large and impersonal and have a gray appearance. The general use of color in the film is quite neutral and gloomy. Smudgy too. This is called functional tuning. It works well.

The characters are as desolate as the face of society in the film. They are colorless, have hardly any identity, do not radiate anything. The characters are interchangeable. They serve the story and the action and serve only a functional purpose.

All that functionality sounds business-like, but it works very effectively. In any case, the film is quite exciting. The digital world is well used to create tension. The chilly decorum lends itself perfectly to exciting Point Of View shots. Shots that ensure involvement in the story. The action is exciting and the story intriguing because of the way it is filmed. And the ominous atmosphere, of course. The cool characters don't get that involvement. Well, except for Seyfried's character, because luckily he does generate some heat.

In the chilly atmosphere, life outside of certain government frameworks as Seyfried's character experiences it, is a lot more challenging. And more fun. And more dynamic. Seyfried's character may be as bland as the other characters, but at least she has some color from the freedom she possesses. Not enough happens with that color.

A better film would also have paid more attention to the contrasting accents in the characters' lifestyles. That's not happening. The emphasis is always on action and effects. And that is why the film is nothing more than a business film that is quite entertaining.

Nice chilly atmosphere.

Well, maybe not nice to live in, but nicely worked out, graphically attractive and nicely implemented with the drawn callouts in the picture. The contrast that has to be made with Seyfried could have been a bit more inventive actually.

Owen is in his own right, but also perhaps a bit easy-going. Just like Seyfried by the way. And the story also feels easygoing and brash - the ending was really disappointing, it should have been much better. If necessary, simply insert the scissors a few minutes earlier.

“It's not that I have something to hide. I have nothing I want you to see.”

Decent Netflix movie. In Anon no one has any secrets anymore and privacy is a thing of the past. Crime is almost gone, until a woman shows up who leaves no digital imprint and commits murders. It all sounds more exciting than it is, because Anon takes his time and there is really no tension. Audiovisually it all looks great and the acting by Owen and Seyfried (a terrible wig) is also fine. But it's not exciting at all, and the predictable message about the dangers of living without privacy can be seen from a mile away.
