Torben and Ninni are college students in a small town. The two young people come from a loveless middle-class background. They are very much in love with each other, but their parents hate that they see each other. When she graduates, the boy has to go to the army. Then the girl discovers she is pregnant and her parents send her to a farm in Denmark to give birth to the child. Torben and Ninni keep hoping they'll meet again so they can get married.
