In terms of cinematography, I think it's a strong film. Clear image and bright colors, beautiful pictures. The story, however, did not interest me. Comedy in general isn't quite my thing and it wasn't catchy enough for me. I like the acting and I think Cheyenne is a nice character. He reminded me of Sam . There are some very nice quotes in the film that really touched me. A sufficient one. 3*

A special film about a former rock star who goes in search of the Nazi executioner who had humiliated his father so much. The film has a pleasant pace, nice visuals and a nice atmosphere too. The story and acting are also excellent. The film also reminded me a lot of the films of Wim Wenders.

And I am particularly pleasantly surprised that such films are still being made in 2011. Although it is a dying breed. Not entirely original, but still glad I saw this movie.

Sean Penn looks like Noel Fielding/Edward Scissorhands and sounds like a mix of Andy Warhol and Truman Capote. That alone makes him quite unbelievable as a former rock star Cheyenne who lives in Ireland with his wife Jane [Frances McDormand] and has had no contact with his family for 30 years when he learns that his father has passed away. Cheyenne decides to visit him and discovers that his father was obsessed with hunting down a guard in Auschwitz who humiliated him there. With the help of seasoned Nazi fighter Mordecai Midler [Judd Hirsch], Cheyenne tries to fulfill his father's life mission after all. Exactly why he wants to do that is one of the big questions you can ask about this ego trip with a drifting scenario that makes insufficient use of the talented supporting show. Penn's worst role since I Am Sam, which unfortunately seems to be a recommendation for some. So be it.
