By chance, he meets two other soldiers - Cheaver (Tim Robbins) and Collee (Rachel McAdams) - who are also returning from the war. Once they start the journey home, they find out that life in America has changed a lot. This fact brings the three closer together and what should have been a short trip home turns into an unexpected trip across the country.

Pretty fun road movie with a somewhat inconsistent tone. Although there is quite a bit of drama in the script, everything is presented in a, sometimes too light-hearted way, which in itself also had its charm.

The story is not much, but there was never a dull moment.

The side characters were not very convincing, but fortunately the 3 sympathetic main characters were well portrayed. On paper a somewhat atypical role for Rachel McAdams, but she manages to make her character her own without difficulty.

3.0*

Good film in which three American soldiers from Iraq carpool to get home. A nice and above all entertaining road movie through America. The three characters are well portrayed. Not least because of the excellent acting, in which Rachel McAdams in particular stands out positively.

“Don't talk about planes crashing when you're on a plane.”

The Lucky Ones is a tragicomedy about three American servicemen who come home from Iraq, and each have to face their own problems. The Lucky Ones certainly has something to say about the usefulness of war and the economic problems in parts of America, but the overall feel of the film is feel good.

Especially McAdams as the chatty and positive Colee gets the laughs on her hand and steals the show. Robbins gets the most to do in the beginning but then fades into the background a bit, and Pena is solid and also plays a strong character. The Lucky Ones has three sympathetic characters that you like to go 'on the road' with. The bittersweet ending fits this perfectly.
