The Return of the Whistler plot
Just as Theodore Anthony 'Ted' Nichols wants to marry the wealthy Frenchwoman Alice Dupres Barkley, she suddenly disappears. Ted enlists private detective Gaylord Traynor to track down Alice. Gaylord eventually finds Alice in a mental hospital. She appears to have been admitted there at the request of one John Barkley. John claims that Alice is his wife. Gaylord and Ted soon find themselves dealing with lies, intrigue and murder.
