Under the motto of broadening my horizons, I decided to watch this film. I had never seen a so-called 'silent film' before, so I didn't know what to expect.

Cthulhu looked familiar to me, and eventually I knew that I know Chtulhu from the South Park episodes.

This movie, on the other hand, was a tough one for me. It was not exciting and you could clearly see that it was low budget. The effects were really crappy and the story, which lasted only 47 minutes, took me way too long afterwards. I also didn't like that constant music throughout the entire film and only text on screen. It will probably belong to these kinds of films, but I found out that this is really not for me. The first silent and last silent (Excluding Laurel & Hardy after that) for me.

Very mediocre.

This film tries to faithfully imitate the silents of a 100 years ago, but actually does not succeed too well. That's annoying, because then you already have the worst of both worlds anyway, especially for people who don't have too much affinity with those old films.

The actors are not expressive enough at all, some are clearly young guys with fake mustaches and glasses. Visually it sometimes looks a bit too sharp, the grain effect on the film also gets a bit boring. And the soundtrack sounds a bit too modern, especially the part with the King Kong cult.

Furthermore, the style sometimes seems a bit too much of an excuse to hide the limited budget, although I have no doubt that this film was made out of pure passion. There are few commercial intentions behind it, because this is such a niche that they must have realized from the start that this would never reach a large audience.

Still respect for the set-up, but the execution was mediocre and as a non-enthusiast of the "genre" it is not that interesting anyway.

I have been intrigued by HP Lovecraft for a very long time, but in the last 7-8 years this has grown even further to the highest level and my fascination for both the person and his work is immense, with his cosmic horror love it. Books, music bands with the main theme of Cthulhu Mythos and the different gods per element of nature. I can often empathize so intensely with his works, which on the one hand describe his worst nightmares and on the other hand his total contempt for man and nothing compared to 'Great Old Ones' and 'Outher Gods'. These gods are responsible for many things in people's daily life, but man himself is not aware of this.

Now this silent movie version of the story, made by HP Lovecraft Historical Society. I am normally not a fan of silent films, but here this was no problem at all, the black and white image, the sound of nightmares, the desperation, the typical atmosphere, actually more HP Lovecraft than many other film adaptations or making a link with HPL. The book itself is actually written as a kind of documentary, consisting of 3 parts. This short film was inspired by part 1. The Horror in Clay, because Professor Angell and Wilcox immediately rang a bell to me. I just think this is very close to his work and small 50 min wonderful atmosphere.
