The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms plot
"You'll see it tear a city apart!"
After an arctic nuclear test, a carnivorous dinosaur comes to life and heads for the east coast of North America. Professor Tom Nesbitt is the only one who knows about the existence of the animal. He discovers that it is a Rhedosaurus, but cannot convince anyone of this theory, not even the eminent paleontologist Thurgood Elson. However, that changes when Elton is eaten by the large animal. Suddenly the animal appears without a trace, until it reappears near Manhattan. Nesbitt hatches a plan to take out the destructive creature.

Ray Harryhausen deserves kudos for his special effects though! Monster movies can always go in with me and I certainly enjoyed it.

Classic monster movie.
But despite that status, not great. That's not even in the dated SFX with a rubber stop-motion monster, but in the extremely predictable story without startling events.
It doesn't get bad anywhere and a Lee Van Cleef with a quiff is scary enough in itself. Yet it still gnaws that there could have been much more here. Within the genre it is anything but a striking production.
