Second film I see by Valette today, luckily it doesn't look anything like the hopeless Le Proie.

Maléfique is simply a very nice film, one that is not easily overlooked. That is sometimes a different story with many horror films. There is an obscure atmosphere about the film, and the shady characters are fun enough to keep you interested. Although I thought the main character himself was quite a fool.

The story is not quite up my alley; the occult nonsense sometimes even made me laugh a little, but it is entertaining enough, and is actually brought to its conclusion in a very enjoyable way. Because of the diabolical touch, it was also somewhat reminiscent of Hellraiser, although this film cannot compete with it in terms of quality.

3.0*, entertaining film.

Not much money will have been spent on this. Four actors in one small space! Conversations abound, but an interesting story and tension are lacking. Bore 3/10

The feature film debut of French director Éric Valette is one that you will not soon forget, because the minimalist content is certainly quite creative towards the second half. The first half is therefore mainly focused on the build-up, in which we as the viewer slowly become acquainted with the (eccentric) characters. Unfortunately, the most uninteresting character (played by an expressionless and mediocre Gérald Laroche) takes the lead role and the full screenplay provides him with the most banal background possible, but Clovis Cornillac and Philippe Laudenbach, on the other hand, perform brilliantly. The visual stylization looks well thought out but somewhat uncertain, and the camera work in particular could have been provided with some extra energy every now and then. The special effects are also moderately convincing and the substantive added value of the concept does its job properly. The last half hour is exciting, mysterious and fascinating and Valette shows that he can tell an original story, but the design could have been given a boost left and right.
