The Kola borehole is the deepest borehole in the world with a depth of more than 12 kilometers. Years ago, the borehole was closed because voices were heard. A group of researchers opens the borehole to investigate the voices. The researchers capture everything with a camera and make a shocking discovery.

A film that genre fans can really enjoy.
80s Russia, a secret lab 12 km underground, an experiment that goes wrong and a team that is allowed to find out what happened without further information. Nice grim and concrete atmosphere, nice mystery and when the mystery is revealed, the film does not disappoint at all. Especially the latter is where it goes wrong for many films.
Visually neat, very tight effects too (I suppose an advantage of the budget, genre films are doing well in Russia these days), a wonderful soundtrack with a nice noise and more than enough tension. The great creature design is the icing on the cake.
The only real pity is the vague dub situation. Scenes are recorded in English (because the dub corresponds perfectly with the lipsynch), but you soon notice that certain characters are still dubbed. I understand that Russian is not a very attractive language from an international perspective, but for a film that is drowning in a Soviet atmosphere, it is a loss if the entire cast speaks English. There is also a Russian dub, which I would have preferred to see.
But nothing else to note. Really perfect genre work. More of this please.

As far as I'm concerned, even almost the best horror movie of 2020. There are still better horror movies, but I think Russia has not beaten this one yet. The Superdeep looks seriously great, but is slowed down by some dots that negate the experience just a little too much.
However, that does not take away from the fact that this film looks strong. The cinematography is really great, the use of color phenomenal. By means of patient camera work, a lot of points on which the film can score are used. The location is beautifully decorated and lit, also combined with a nice dark soundtrack.
The acting is quite nice, but the actors are somewhat thwarted by a clumsy dub. That ensures that the film makes a somewhat cheap impression, and that is a pity because what you can see with the eye makes anything but a cheap impression. The effects look strong and detailed and I couldn't detect a single wooden scene.
It is not really exciting and towards the middle it has some problems with the pace, otherwise everything about the film is wonderful. The horror is successful and the playing time is not felt for a single moment. The finale is also the icing on the cake, and as a viewer you are probably eagerly awaiting it. I think that the film rewards the viewer well for his patience.
Great, recent horror film that I would like to recommend to everyone. Strongly designed on a cinematographic level and also quite original in terms of concept. You won't get to know much about the 1990 legend with this film, but you will probably still be surprised with what you do get to see. No surprise, I thought this movie would be good, but had a great time with the movie nonetheless. The better horror work of 2020.

Nice horror work. The story is well put together and has a slightly topical theme. The effect just doesn't work. The first part is the strongest. The construction is actually quite good. Calmly, we are working towards the ominous. The second part is a bit less because the film is a bit repetitive and contains some mediocre scenes. At that moment I regularly thought about Blomkamp's Zygote. Furthermore, the film contains enough tension and gore. Biggest flaw is the English language/dub, which is quite disturbing and looks fake. 3.0
