Il Gioco delle Ombre plot

In this tale of ghosts, Bussotti, a writer, is mourning the guilt of his beloved, the beautiful Carena, having committed suicide. He rents a creepy apartment in a sleepy town and lives like a hermit. He is drawn again and again to a secret room upstairs, where a fresco reminds him of his lost love. He becomes increasingly melancholy, until he happens to meet a sweet tightrope dancer in a surrealistic traveling circus, who brings him back to reality.
