Robert Kraft [Richard Boone] is reluctantly appointed as the director of a cemetery, even though Andy McKee [Theodore Bikel] is the one doing most of the work, meaning Robert essentially only has to handle a few formalities. The previous owners used a map on which they used pins with black and white heads to indicate which graves were 'occupied' and which were not. Robert, who does not yet understand the system at that time, adds a few black pins. When a number of villagers die quite suddenly, Robert begins to believe that he can cause people to die with the black pins, but when his associates hear this, they force Robert to do something that has fatal consequences. There is not a single violent scene in this film, but towards the end there is a strong, macabre scene which, however, is not sufficient to allow this excellent psychological thriller to bear the label 'horror film'. Richard Boone gives a superb performance as the ordinary businessman who slowly but surely realizes that he possesses a horrific gift. Theodore Bikel, however, is a major downside with his unbelievable make-up and his even less believable Scottish accent, but the unusual yet very effective score makes up for a lot. A modest classic that is certainly worth watching.

This one was actually far from bad, even though I find the "Horror" label slightly exaggerated. It is more of a psychological thriller. During the build-up, you get the feeling that something supernatural is going on. Ultimately, it simply leans towards a crime story. Nevertheless, I still found this to be a captivating film.

No, this was indeed not a full-blooded horror film, but the story is very originally chosen. It is a shame that they didn't opt more for the supernatural horror side, because that might have made the film a lot more interesting.
Now, actually at the very last moment, they choose a thriller crime plot, and I found that to be a bit of an anticlimax in the end.
