Standard horror film with few surprises. Runs quite slow. Actually neither meat nor fish, because it is not really exciting either. I had a hard time sitting through the whole movie.

OK.

Thought it was a pretty entertaining horror movie. Certainly not the scariest and unfortunately certainly also one that leaves a lot of points behind, but such a drama as the average indicates I absolutely did not find it. It is also clear that Del Toro was involved in this.

The most successful thing for me was the setting. Especially in the beginning we get a few atmospheric and imaginative shots of the house, but especially the garden. Obviously, this isn't exactly going to be about ghosts, but something else.

Unfortunately, when that really comes into the picture otherwise, the film deteriorates. Those creatures are not exciting or scary at all. I thought they were mostly stupid and something that belongs in a comedy rather than a horror movie like this one.

It's also a shame that such an exciting title leaves so many points on the elaboration itself. The house was beautifully presented and the acting by Pearce, Holmes and Madison is good. It just lacks the tension itself in the end.

But luckily it is nowhere boring. With the right direction, this could have been terrifying. This director knows how to give some nice imaginative moments, but in terms of horror itself, he forgets to make an exciting film.
