Nice and charming video from Craven. The introduction is a bit long and the climax disappoints a bit, but the plot is generally entertaining and the clumsy eighties atmosphere adds something to the whole. Certainly not Craven's best, but Deadly Friend is fun here and there.

3 stars.

A cheesy film by Craven that is often forgotten but it is also below the level of his greater successes. The movie doesn't quite know what it should be: in the beginning you're watching a teen movie on its Short Circuit, then some domestic violence ensues between an "abusive" father and his daughter, and then we hit a turn towards zombie film. It's a bit of a stew of all sorts of things, but it certainly didn't bore me. The basketball scene comes out of nowhere and with two dream sequences Craven shows what he loved to do in A Nightmare on Elm Street. I didn't like the cliche ending here.

Laborteaux, who plays the part of the young amateur brain surgeon, is primarily a TV actor, known to me as Albert from Little House on the Prairie. An actor that does not appeal to the imagination, who seems to be walking around in his grandfather's square shirts and cloth trousers. Swanson, on the other hand, did surprise me, with some captivating mime as she plays her zombie alter ego.

Wonderful pulp film from the 80s that was completely unknown to me until alexspyforever recently praised it in the horror challenge. Actually never heard of it. The movie is just fun because of the 80's atmosphere, a well-constructed story, BB the robot and Kristy Swanson. There are only a few kills in the film, but the basket scene was a hit. Only the last scene in the morgue was superfluous. 7/10
