Always nice to see films in which it revolves around a severely disturbed sect that has given its entirety to God (or rather, the devil). Borderland is also one of those and again we can take a look at such a sect, where the film actually sometimes comes across as a real horror, but the nice thing is... that that horror is in real life also happens more often than you might think.

The beginning of Borderland is simply horribly sick and it promises to be a serious horror film. Unfortunately, that also diminishes with time, but oh well. Here we follow a Mexican sexte, as well as 3 students and a traumatized police officer, who eventually also collide. The movie flows along nicely, regarding the kidnapping of one of the students as all the sick shit out there in that community, and the one cop who keeps getting labeled crazy by his corps for what he's seen. This does keep it interesting. However, what I didn't like is that the film has another clumsy climax climax, in which there is a quick prayer between that strip dancer, that one student and that cult gang , and the whole thing knew well to stay realistic.

But still good fun nonetheless. Sick and insane, this film is definitely recommended for horror fans. For the already serious art-house horror enthusiast, you should take this one with a grain of salt.

3.5*

An even rougher version of Hostel that came out a few years earlier. It doesn't bring much news to that film and it isn't made beautifully either. If you're into gore horror, Borderland might be more your thing, because it goes beyond Hostel. Characters are not very interesting and visually it is not really beautiful.

Entertaining and atmospheric horror piece and loosely based on a true story, which makes it even more fascinating. The gore could have been a lot more as far as I'm concerned, but I definitely thought the atmosphere was right. All in all a nice video.
