Beast of War plot

During World War II, a warship transports hundreds of Australian soldiers across the Timor Sea to the front. Suddenly, Japanese fighter planes burst into flames, and within minutes, the ocean transforms into a hell of steel, fire, oil, and blood. While a handful of soldiers build a makeshift raft from floating debris to cling to life, their greatest battle is yet to come. In the darkness below, the ultimate predator—a great white shark—prowls the wreckage, drawn by the scent of fresh blood in the water.

A weak horror war film. The story is mediocre and the execution even worse. The film takes a rather long lead-up, spending almost a third of the film at the protagonists' training camp. Then, the film abruptly switches to the ship, and a minute later, we're looking at a floating raft in the middle of a nearly motionless sea. A swimming pool is even more brutal. From then on, the suspense picks up, but the cheesy setting and the men's strange antics keep the quality low. The ending is already uninteresting. The acting is still decent. 2.0

A low-budget Australian film about the struggle a group of survivors of a sunken WWII warship must wage against a predatory great white shark. The cast delivers surprisingly strong performances, and the film certainly has some effective moments, but the implausible setting and the fragmented use of the shark detract from the enjoyment. Nevertheless, an entertaining film.

Great, me on a raft surrounded by killer sharks, with a great story and a cast I didn't know a single one of. Yet they played their roles convincingly, and the sharks look believable too. At 87 minutes, it's not too long and not too short
