That's funny.

Peter Jackson is one of my favorite directors. I loved The Lord of the Rings and Braindead also enjoyed it. Bad Taste, however, did not. It must be me, but I think the effects are a bit too bad to go through it at full speed.

It probably has to do with that, because Braindead was delightful to me. This one also has a very good dose of gore, although I think this is more about the really dirty stuff and not just bloodshed. The Aliens looked laughable.

A movie that I don't think takes itself too seriously, Jackson and his crew are having fun by the way. There is also a lot to enjoy about gore, but hey, a movie that you really have to love.

revised. A 4K restoration is likely to follow later this year, but you really should see this in the clunky original 4:3 version, with bad dubbing and lousy mono sound. Even after more than 30 years this is a hilariously sick piece, amateurish and completely ridiculous, but laced with brilliant moments. In any case, Peter Jackson is going all out, unhindered by a studio or even a budget.

Entertaining nonsense.

It can be seen that Peter Jackson is a huge fan, because how he has put together his debut film almost without a budget: it is quite inventive. The student vibe is dripping from it, but that may have been the luck for this film.

I'm not really a fan of the genre myself. Bad Taste is also nice to have seen, but despite Jackson's inventiveness I don't see a masterpiece in it. On the other hand, it just succeeded in its purpose as a completely idiotic horror fest. Everything is so over-the-top: costumes, humor, body horror, ... that it just looks great. With this kind of film one has to go all the way and Jackson has done that excellently. He is very happy that he plays the nicest role(s). He does that well, by the way. Braindead will be his next movie on my list, my interest has been aroused enough after Bad Taste.
