A somewhat hopeful film in these times where actually nothing has changed at all, and this conversation really needs to take place again, although it won't this time because no one feels like it. So it will take decades before another conversation takes place regarding topics such as NATO, missiles, and human rights. Virtually the same conversation needs to happen again. Now it will also have to be about killer drones and AI and cyber, which actually makes everything much more complex as well. The acting in this film is quite good, although I did get the feeling it was acted, and although the film is dramatized, it is completely devoid of suspense. Actually, the things people say haven't changed either. "Peace to strength" is being said again as a kind of law of nature, while there might well be other, more creative options. Wasn't that whole shield thing just hot air? Wasn't that some kind of fantasy story? If it is a fantasy story, then it certainly did its job well. I never really got the feeling I was watching Reagan, but rather Jeff Daniels; but all in all, a passing grade. The tribulations of Gorbachev's wife and those two journalists felt superfluous or uninteresting.
