A somewhat hopeful film in these times where actually nothing has changed at all, and this conversation really needs to take place again, although it won't this time because no one feels like it. So it will take decades before another conversation takes place regarding topics such as NATO, missiles, and human rights. Virtually the same conversation needs to happen again. Now it will also have to be about killer drones and AI and cyber, which actually makes everything much more complex as well. The acting in this film is quite good, although I did get the feeling it was acted, and although the film is dramatized, it is completely devoid of suspense. Actually, the things people say haven't changed either. "Peace to strength" is being said again as a kind of law of nature, while there might well be other, more creative options. Wasn't that whole shield thing just hot air? Wasn't that some kind of fantasy story? If it is a fantasy story, then it certainly did its job well. I never really got the feeling I was watching Reagan, but rather Jeff Daniels; but all in all, a passing grade. The tribulations of Gorbachev's wife and those two journalists felt superfluous or uninteresting.

Magnifying seemingly unimportant moments in military history because they sow the seeds for much larger matters or simply mark the end of famous/infamous events.

Recently there were Nuremberg, Pressure, and now this The Brink of War.

A psychological thriller based on true events surrounding a summit between the two world leaders at a time when the Cold War was still in full swing.

The film is presented quite well, although there could have been some context leading up to this summit explaining why it was held.

What it leads to is, however, shown in the end credits.

Generally good performances, although the dialogues, especially the family ones, are sometimes a bit too superficial and too "polished".

Otherwise, things are going well, and a negotiation at the highest level is being well portrayed, with the necessary tensions and the obligatory cooling-off moments.

Unfortunately, this film will apparently not reach the regular cinema circuit in our region.

If, amidst all the commercial, substandard fiction flooding cinemas these days, there is ever one film that demands some focus from the viewer at a slightly higher level, it fails to come out.

Painful.

No idea how meticulous and historically accurate it all is, but this was quite nice to watch, mainly thanks to the good lead actors.

I read that the 'Angel' production company that brought this to market was quite conservative/religious, but there is actually no sign of that in this film. The discussions between Gorbi and Ronnie are quite balanced in terms of content.

Apart from that, everything regarding the results surrounding Reykjavik 86 is well known.
