Don't think it's that good. Little romantic chemistry between Ben Foster and Sophie Lowe either. The combat is decent but the story is a bit chaotic. The story is told confusingly, editing I found a bit all over the place and the pace sometimes drops heavily. Too bad, because the action is regularly quite enjoyable.

Not really bad, but in the end Medieval is too poorly directed. A chopping fest, certainly, but the story also jumps from one topic to another. Too many different agendas and political games have to be crammed into 2 hours of film. In addition, there is Jan Zizka's unsurprising course, which results in a number of bland, melodramatic scenes. Ben Foster and co do their thing and you can't blame them, but I had hoped for just a little more.

The prologue of this biographical film about the legendary innovative military leader Jan Žižka [Ben Foster] tries to explain how complex the political relations were in Europe around 1419. In reality it was much more complicated and that doesn't make the plot much more clearly. In fact, it revolves around a series of cheaply filmed fights with a lot of bloodshed, torture and the occasional rape, with the occasional death scene with moody piano and a sentimental monologue, and even a romantic subplot with Jan and Katherine [Sophie Lowe], the niece of the French king. Michael Caine pops up every now and then to collect his wages.
