"They can't skate. They can't win. They can't be serious."

A successful lawyer, he makes a bad decision when he celebrates his win with a case of beer in his car. Since it's not his first offense, he must give back to the community by coaching a bunch of street kids from District 5 ice hockey. They can't play at all, and hardly accept him as leader. Among them is one who is a bit nicer. He has lost his father and finds in the new coach a lost friendship.

A really fun, funny entertaining movie.

Predictive and not deep, of course, but just fun. Hang out in front of the tube and watch.

“Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack!”

Sympathetic film and a little bit of youth sentiment. Emilio Estevez who has to lead an ice hockey team with children who all have their own problems. The interaction between Estevez and the young actors is the heart of the film and that part works. It's a shame that the story is very predictable and doesn't manage to come up with anything surprising. The characters also remain remarkably flat, and the acting and dialogues are sometimes of a questionable level. But the underdog wins and that's always a plus.

Half.

I had hoped for a fairly simple sports film according to the safe Disney formula, and actually I got it. It has become so safe in the meantime that I suspect this film of literally adopting an entire formula. I don't really believe it was the founder. There is nothing original in this movie.

Basically we follow Estevez on his adventure with a kids hockey team. The adventurous character that the film likes to radiate with it is just not very well portrayed. It never really feels like Estevez is taking the kids on a path to success. The film goes over it pretty quickly, and once the band is built up slowly, the finale almost follows.

The acting is mediocre, although I thought the kids were still able to do it. A lot more interesting than Estevez himself in any case, where no sensible text comes out. The children may be quite flat, but at the very least a lot lighter to look at. The supporting roles are also so good that there is not much left to pay any serious attention at all.

My guess is that children can watch this just fine, but then immediately forget about it. Perhaps if this is the first movie a kid ever sees that will stick with it, otherwise this movie doesn't really do anything better or different than other movies, and many of them are a lot more interestingly executed. So I can't imagine that the film will leave a lasting impression.

Bon, otherwise it looks nice and the hockey games are entertaining and light-hearted to watch. Everything is in principle predictable and meanwhile strongly repeated, but in terms of entertainment it is doable. Unfortunately, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a quickly put together film with not as much heart as it wants.
