Sheep herding is just about the main activity on the British Isle of Man. On the farm of John Moore lives the young border collie Owd Bob, candidate for the next championship. His main competitor is current champion Zac, the dog of gruff neighbor Adam MacAdam. One day his grandson David, recently orphaned, comes to ask Adam for shelter. With Zac's help, David learns the ropes. He also befriends Owd Bob and Maggie, John Moore's daughter. But the closer the championship gets, the more David is forced to choose his grandfather and dog Zac.
