Madelief: Krassen in het Tafelblad plot

Just like the television series Madelief, youth film is based on the book of the same name by Guus Kuijer. In Scratches in the tabletop Madelief is now about ten years old. Her grandmother has passed away and after the funeral Madelief wants to know everything about grandmother, but her mother does not want to talk about it and grandfather does not say much either. All she knows is that grandma cleaned a lot, had good sides, but wasn't really sweet. When Madelief goes to stay with Grandpa for the first time, it turns out that you can laugh with Grandpa, but she also discovers a mysterious garden shed in the overgrown backyard that used to be Grandma's. Together with a friend from the village, the curious Madelief goes on a journey of discovery and unravels her grandmother's secret step by step.

Seen every now and then. (also watched the series when they were on TV) and I thought it was a very good movie even then. I recently bought it and reviewed it again after all these years and it just remains a heartwarming film for all ages. The story also makes you think and is played really well. Rijk de Gooijer really did a sublime job as the grandfather who also had a good sense of humor here and there, Madelief Verelst too, which I find very unfortunate is that that is also the only part. She should have played in more movies because of her talent. In addition, a very nice supporting role by Thomas Adca who also makes something beautiful of it and also Margo Dames. But still I think Verelst steals the role of everyone. Still, I thought she was a sweet girl.

The story also makes you think a lot. That such a grandmother didn't seem to be such a sweet woman and eventually the truth comes out. Of course it's a story by Guus Kuijer (I've also read the book once) but also very well narrated in the film. With things here and there that stick with you. Some flashbacks were also beautifully rendered, but there was also a big mistake in 1 flashback: For example, that scene with Brussels in the 50s you see a little later in the background all cars of this time. Well, I shouldn't be bothered by that at all. Everything is just fine about this movie. The book was good too, but book adaptations don't have to be bad at all (as many people claim). By the way, I found that nightmare scene of Madelief quite scary at the time.

Otherwise just a very moving children's film that is really suitable for every generation. Also quite instructive in some respects. This is just a very good real life children's classic that always makes you think.

Definitely a fun kids movie. It has very nice moments, and the flashbacks were also well portrayed. With actors such as Rijk de Gooijer and Kitty Coubois, the acting was also completely fine. The ending wasn't exactly predictable either. A movie that I still enjoyed!
