RR plot
Shot on 16mm, the American independent filmmaker Benning shows 43 shots in which we see just as many trains speeding by - in its entirety. Filmed in 16 states, RR (derived from the word railroad) showcases the beauty of the American landscape. From the sun-drenched fields of California, the panoramic salt flats in Utah to the bridge that crosses the Hudson River, RR showcases the diversity of the landscape. RR can be seen as a meditation on nostalgia, the joy of waiting, Western over-consumption and on cinema itself.
