The artist Stefan Helmers takes on an assignment somewhere in the interior. His girlfriend Anita accompanies him to the relevant village. But when Stefan falls in love with the peasant girl Gretl, Anita returns to the big city in frustration. Her boss, meanwhile, tries to take advantage of the new situation.
