Together with his mother Dolores and grandmother Anita, 12-year-old Malik has lived his entire life in the sprawling Cabrini-Green public housing complex in Chicago. The same goes for his best friend Eric. Together the boys know every corner, staircase and roof – all a playground for their (sometimes forbidden) adventures. But change invades their childhood. Drugs and crime seep into the neighborhood and when a sudden tragic event further shakes the families, the children's future becomes uncertain.

We Grown Now in which we follow two growing boys who live in a social housing complex that is about to be demolished. It mainly shows everyday life there with its peaks and valleys. It is all very small because it mainly takes place in dark houses and we follow no more than two families. In that it is very well done. Do not expect spectacle or entertainment then you are wrong with this film. It is mainly the conviction of the cast that makes it what it is. I miss some further depth in terms of emotions and that is a bit of a minus point. It all remains quite tame for what you experience.
