New York, 1932. Patricia marries Eddie, a man she doesn't really love. Max, her great love, was forced by his Jewish family to marry another girl to further his medical career. Patricia and Max still see each other now and then. Then Patricia is seriously injured in a traffic accident. Eddie, who loves Patricia very much, realizes that she still loves Max. Still, he enlists Max, who is now a well-known surgeon, to treat her.
