A somewhat strange film, a kind of road movie with the highlight climbing up a mountain together naked.

Good story from Theunissen, although it may be a bit long. He paid close attention and puts a number of events into perspective. I relived the movie again. But even when nothing seems to be happening, quite a lot is actually happening. A film that continues to haunt you for a long time.

The film has a horror tag on IMDb, and as I've heard, it does have a rather intense ending. And that's an understatement. But the film is a 100-minute, uneasy road trip that, judging by the reviews, has a rather polarizing effect. And I understand why. Beautiful shots of the American desert, as David and Katia travel through it. But not everything is rosy, because they're not exactly on good terms, and Dupont stays close as we follow them intimately in their daily lives. With plenty of sex, driving, arguing, eating, sex, driving, sex, all of which we see in detail. It's not very loving or intimate, and there's not much plot to be found, but I still found it somewhat intriguing to be so close to David and Katia as they talk past each other.

Although the film feels a bit awkward for its entire running time, for the vast majority of the time there's little going on other than another fuck or bickering between the couple. But that changes towards the end when a couple of rednecks stand their ground and rape David in front of Katia. And David's ego and masculinity are so affected by this that he freaks out and stabs Katia to death. I did watch for a while, and it's also interesting how the film actually does exactly what you don't expect. Besides testing your patience by only starting the escalation after 100 minutes, it's also not the woman, but the man who is the victim of the rape, instead of David being able to try to defend her. And this attack on his masculinity is fatal for him. An intriguing film, although I wouldn't dare recommend it to many people here.
