Truman plot
"Friendship is what matters in life"
Julián is an actor and bon vivant who is over fifty. He is terminally ill and accepts that dying is part of life, so he organizes his final goodbye. His childhood friend Tomás comes to visit him from Canada, they haven't seen each other in years. Together they will experience four unforgettable days during which they will visit various cities. Meanwhile, they try to find a solution to the biggest concern that Julián struggles with: finding a new home for Truman, his dog.

Beautiful modest film. Also nice for once that the heavy and bombastic Hollywood drama is left behind. I had the feeling that I was watching actions that an average person could also perform if he/she ends up in such a terrible situation.

Movies like this are the main reason why I watch movies. I want to be touched, to love, to embrace. Truman is such a gem. I think it is a beautiful movie from start to finish with a captivating story and excellent acting. Beautiful, that love between man and animal. I am a dog lover, so that is also why this movie appeals to me. I also like that the movie has a Dutch touch because of the days in Amsterdam, and it is not a superficial movie. There is enough depth in it, as far as I am concerned. I think the playing time is good. Not too long or too short. Especially towards the end I was moved. Yes, this is what I want to see when I watch a movie. 5*

Truman is a heartwarming film about a man suffering from cancer. Another film about cancer, I have seen several in recent months, but this Truman offers a different perspective. The focus is not on the death struggle, chemotherapy or painful suffering, but on internal friendship, family relationships, organising the rest of your life and dealing with impending death. The dog Truman immediately catches the eye: it is not the division of your material inheritance or possessions that Julian is concerned about, but the well-being of his faithful four-legged friend when he is no longer there.
Truman is not a dog movie, fortunately. Some attention is paid to his 'character', but the film has several interesting subplots to follow. For the second time in a few days I was pleasantly surprised with a nice trip to Amsterdam. Not as picturesque as in "The fault in our stars", but still with pleasant atmospheric scenes. Truman is not a melodramtic sentimental film. Truman is warm and honest, taken from life, about a man who can perfectly cope with his fate and tries to enjoy the little things. It strikes me all the more that his environment has a much harder time with his lifestyle. Why give up? Why not fight? Why not grab that last straw to ... for what actually? To extend your life a few months longer as a terminally ill man? ...
The film also has a nice humor. Especially the 2 different scenes in the restaurant I could appreciate as well as the subtle bickering between the two. A nice casting also with 2 excellent performances by Camara and Darin. Nice, floating between 3.5* and 4.0*. I give him the benefit of the doubt!
