Anna has been a maidservant to a family in Athens for 10 years to support her mother, brothers and sisters financially. Her boss arranges a meeting between Anna and Kosmas, a possible groom. During their night out, she discovers what she has been missing all these years. When the family realizes they can't live without her, she surrenders to a joyless life in the service of another.
