The Town plot

"Welcome to the bank robbery capital of America."

More than 300 bank robberies are committed in Boston every year. And most of the perpetrators live in Charlestown, a neighborhood that covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers. One of them is Doug MacCray (Ben Affleck). He did have a chance at success, a chance not to follow in his father's criminal footsteps. Still, he joined a band of ruthless bank robbers who pride themselves on being able to steal anything they want and get out unscathed. The only family Doug has are his criminal friends. Jem (Jeremy Renner) is like a brother to Doug despite his dangerous and quick-fire nature. However, everything changes during a gang job when Jem briefly takes a hostage: bank manager Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall). When they discover she lives in Charlestown, Jem becomes nervous and wants to find out what she saw.

Successful film. Good acting, nice storyline, although not surprising. Yet very realistic.

If I identify with the protagonist, it's a good movie for me.

Argo and Gone Baby Gone are excellent movies. In that regard, this one is a bit disappointing. In terms of direction, it is again strong. The action scenes show the chaos of the action but still remain clear. The script also runs smoothly. I am afraid that Ben will no longer have to cast himself for the lead role. It's not bad, but it never adds value either. Renner was a lot better for example. All in all, the film just doesn't impress enough for a really high score, but it is entertaining nonetheless.

The Town is a film that is very successful on many fronts. Good story, good execution, nice pace, good attention to subplots and an excellent cast that acts well. Great movie!
