Eighteen-year-old Esther has been deaf and blind since her mother's fatal accident years ago. Margaret, an old fellow villager of hers from when Esther still lived in Ireland, is approached to educate her and if possible heal her. Margaret begins to see Esther more and more as her daughter, but is still bothered by many people (including her ex-husband).
