The Song of Names plot

"Music brought them together. Time would tear them apart."

At the beginning of the Second World War, nine-year-old violinist Dovidl, a Polish Jew, fled to London. At 21, he is about to give his first concert when he disappears from the face of the earth without a trace. Decades later, his brother Martin, who has always admired him, is told a piece of music by a young violinist that could only have been learned by Dovidl. Martin begins an investigation into his lost brother, which leads to surprising discoveries.

An honest, but not entirely successful film adaptation of Norman Lebrecht's book, was highly appreciated, especially in Canada, but will not really appeal to the masses in Europe. The theme is somewhat reminiscent of our own The Attack: a coincidental, seemingly insignificant event (missing a bus stop by a very talented young violinist) has major emotional and life-changing consequences for both himself and his best friend. friend. A friend who, as an adult, then searches frustratedly and obsessively for the true facts of the events of that one night. Calm, accurate drama takes a long time before the sensitive point is made, and it would therefore have been better if The Song of Names had been shortened somewhat (in particular the flashback structure involving the two in their younger years does not work well). Tim Roth in a nicely understated role as a normal person this time is a very pleasant surprise. Clive Owen as a potentially virtuoso violinist is a bit more difficult, but he just gets away with it. Film that will really appeal to a select audience, especially if you like violin music, this could be your thing, because towards the end we get an almost unadulterated concert recording.

Reasonable film about a Jewish boy from Poland who is taken care of by a British family during the war. A nice story where the flashbacks do not work well within the whole. The film didn't really move me anywhere (perhaps because I've seen it all before and the progression has few surprises).
