Pretty nice drama movie. I didn't know what to expect so just let it all come to me. Matthew Perry does a good job. I've never heard anything about Ron Clark, but Perry does lend sympathy to the character. But I also thought that many children acted very well. The story is interesting and the film generally does not bore. Not every scene came across as strong to me, but there weren't really bad ones either. Nice to have seen.

The Ron Clark Story

Teachers who are faced with an unmanageable class: yes, I recognize something in it. Not because I'm in front of the class myself, but because I've been in one of those classes. Now you have good comparison material to see how this character, Ron Clark in this case, will solve it. I'd say put it on Ron.

The movie is mostly entertaining. The rebellious students, the persistent teacher, the opposing management; it all has something. Now the film never rises to great heights, or descends to deep valleys. You continue to have a feel-good feeling from a teacher who gets his children on track. Understand the good rails. The story is as cliche as it gets. Now that also fits in the film, although it does not bring anything special.

Matthew Perry is, of course, the star in this movie. He seems pretty dopey to me all the time. Maybe this is the intention? Cheers then! Yet he does not perform memorable. A bit superficial even. He doesn't convince you of the warm feeling you get when children really bond with a teacher. Bit of a shame this.

Furthermore, the kids like Brandon Smith, Hannah Hodson and Bren Eastcott are fun. They also do not know how to put down anything that is always worth remembering. Still, it's all well done.

The film lacks a little bit of the Harlem atmosphere. It's just a class really. A class that can be found everywhere, and not specifically there. The few scenes that take place nearby therefore come across as a desperate attempt to let you know that we are still in Harlem. That could have been better.

The Ron Clark Story is certainly not a bad movie, but it really isn't good either. Perhaps it is because of the subject, that it simply offers too few possibilities. Unfortunately.

2.5*
