In 1952, during the Korean War, a number of US Air Force officers land in Kyoto, Japan. Among them are the pilot Major Ceve Saville, who is assigned to an F-86 squadron, and Lieutenant Carl Abbott. Abbott neglects his charming wife Kristina, who becomes embittered as a result. In Korea, Saville again meets Colonel Dutch Imil, a former comrade-in-arms from World War II, and other old comrades. While on leave in Japan, Saville falls in love with Kristina, making Abbott jealous. Saville and Abbott become irreconcilable rivals. But while on a mission over North Korea, Abbott is wounded and Saville decides to save him.
