The Great Gatsby plot

Classic by J. Scott Fitzgerald in a good film adaptation.
Made a crushing impression the first time, but that must be due to the qualities of the story.
Cinematically neat, but a bit sober.
Later this year a new version by Baz Luhrmann.

Since the extravagance of the mysterious Jay Gatsby [Toby Stephens] is a major motif in F. Scott Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece, it is curious that this adaptation suffers from claustrophobia. Largely filmed in close-ups that reveal that we are dealing with a (relatively) cheap TV film. Routinely directed and without significant acting.
