The Dresser plot

"What happens backstage is always true drama. And often pure comedy."

During the Second World War, a theater company, most of which is in military service, tries to survive with mostly old and second-rate actors. The leader of the group is an old Shakespearean actor (Finney). He is at the end of his powers and needs constant boosting from his gay assistant (Courtenay).
