Reasonable film about a football team of homeless people from England that participates in an international tournament. A feel-good movie with some great moments. Despite the brisk pace, it sometimes slows down a bit. The film also lasts a bit too long because of too many storylines. A small 3.0 stars.

With feel-good films there is the danger that it is rather manufactured and predictable. And sentimentalism is often taken. That is no different here. Bill Nighy has had better roles. I expected him to be more inspiring here, but that hardly came across here.

But it is and remains a nice viewer. Everything but a winner, but it is nice to highlight the idea of the World Cup for the homeless. Rather light-hearted and simple, because it often concerns people with complicated problems. The snapshots of Rome are also nice, it remains a great city.

Could just as well have been 3.0* as far as I'm concerned, but then Nighy's role needed to be better developed. Not great, but I wasn't bored.

Since 1999, the Homeless World Cup Foundation has organized an annual 4x4 football tournament with national teams made up of homeless people. Vinny [Micheal Ward] was in the interest of West Ham United as a youth player, but he was unable to make the next step. Bitterness over that failure cost him the relationship with the mother [Jessye Romeo] of his daughter [Jesusline Baah-Williams] and a roof over his head. Former football scout Mal [Bill Nighy] sees Vinny's talent and invites him to join the England national team at the 2019 Homeless World Cup in Italy. More or less out of necessity, Vinny joins, even though he doesn't like having to play with people who can't do much of it. Based on the experiences of participants and teams who actually participated in this World Cup. Nighy is old-fashioned sublime and Shorrock finds the right mix of drama and humor that keeps it light, without losing the underlying message. Susan Wokoma steals the film as the warm-hearted, smart supervisor of the South African team.
