The Amazing Wife plot

Cicely Osborne marries laborer John Ashton to care for her mother. At their wedding dinner at a cabaret, John flirts with a woman and her enraged escort kills him. At home, Cicely finds her mother dead. While contemplating suicide, Cicely learns that a lieutenant with the same name as her husband has been killed in the war. She tells the lieutenant's aristocratic parents that she and John were secretly married, and soon ingratiates herself with her. Only John's crippled cousin Philip finds her suspicious.
