The Baltic coast on the Westerplatte, September 1, 1939. Salvos from the Nazi battleship Schleswig-Holstein herald the start of World War II. While the troops of Nazi Germany were occupying Poland at the time, two hundred Polish soldiers half-heartedly held out here for seven days. The story of two commanders and their men who wage a heroic battle in which they must choose between two opposing views of courage: surrender or fight to the last man.
