Stuck in Love plot
"A story about first loves and second chances."
Writer Bill Borgens has struggled since his wife Erica left him three years earlier for a younger man. Instead of working on a new book, he obsessively spies on her. During Thanksgiving, his 19-year-old daughter Samantha comes home with the news that her first novel is being published. Bill is happy for her and proposes to tell her mother the good news. However, Samantha wants nothing more to do with the woman who cheated on her father.

More drama than comedy, doubt it should bear the comedy tag anyway, but the movie does. Overall a good movie, but I don't think it will stay with me for very long. The ending is quite cliché, while surprises were very possible in this story. I also didn't really feel satisfied afterwards, certain storylines were cut off too quickly. The story around Haley, for example, which really appealed to me. It is a pity that very little was done with it in the end. Just a little too little has been done to really get me, when there had been so many more possibilities. It's not a 12 in a dozen film, but it certainly isn't a high-flyer either. He easily looks away, the roles are played well and normally I would have very little to say. However, they keep it too sweet and too small, so I don't get further than 3 *.

Small, quite charming, film. Comedy is indeed questionable as a genre. The actors come across as quite natural which is a plus in a movie like this.
All babbling nicely for the drama never becomes tear-jerking but remains easily digestible because of the choices.
Soundtrack suited the movie well.

Strong drama film that really takes the time to explore its characters and the mutual relationships. Every member of the Borgens family has to deal with love affairs, and Stuck in Love's greatest strength lies in how recognizable and genuine it all feels.
Divorced parents and what this does to the children, discovering the first love, a disturbed mother-daughter relationship, fear of commitment, a drug problem, the loss of a parent, etc. It's hard work, but director Boone doesn't make it too dramatic and also gives room for humor and perspective. Jennifer Connelly, Kinnear, Lerman, Bell and Wolff are perfectly in place here, but the biggest compliment has to go to Lily Collins, who puts on a really great performance here as a teen with fear of commitment. Collins and Lerman are really endearing together, and the last scene between Connelly and her is also worth it. Compliments also for the wonderful soundtrack
