Yep, this was one of those typical "coming-of-age" movies like many others that have been made, but you don't come across one as good as this one every day!

If I didn't know any better I would swear it was a real movie made in the 80's, the hairstyles, the costumes, the vehicles, in short everything you see exudes that typical atmosphere of that time. The soundtrack consists of a collection of unforgettable 80's pop songs from artists such as "New Order", "George Michael", "Kate Bush", quite a few "The Cure" songs etc...

And let me not forget to mention the anthem of the young Brian and his friends: the hard rock song The Ace Of Spades by "Motörhead"

No special effects, no fancy camera positions or other clever tricks!

This is just a solid, crafted film that mainly has to rely on the nostalgic atmosphere, incredibly good acting lead actors, and of course the talent of director Tom Vaughan. I think that's one to keep an eye on, he's going to deliver more film gems, remember my words!!

8/10. A good "coming-of-age" movie

Perhaps an exaggerated score for some, but for an 80s kid and secret romantic like me, it's absolutely worth it.

Romantic student comedy. Funny but oh so clichéd and predictable.

James McAcoy with his softy-baby face finds a suitable role here.

Student-like and actually, it's certainly not bad.

A great romcom with a nice soundtrack and how nice it is to see a very young McAvoy and Cumberbatch at work. Funny that they became superheroes in Marvel movies x number of years later, you would never have guessed that based on this movie!
